Your safety matters. While LankaMeet verifies profiles and provides reporting tools, you are always your own best protector. Follow these guidelines when connecting online and meeting in person.
Online safety
- Keep conversations on LankaMeet until you trust someone
- Never send money, gift cards, or bank details — even if they claim an emergency
- Be wary of profiles that refuse video calls or always cancel meet-ups
- Do not share your NIC, passport, or home address early in a conversation
- Use the Report and Block tools if something feels wrong
Meeting in person
- Meet in a public place for the first few dates
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you'll check in
- Arrange your own transport — do not rely on someone you just met
- Stay sober enough to make clear decisions
- For matrimony introductions involving families, involve trusted relatives and meet in appropriate settings
Verification
Verified badges mean we reviewed submitted materials at a point in time. They are not a guarantee of character. Continue to use your judgment.
Scams and fraud
Common red flags include requests for money, investment schemes, romance scams targeting the diaspora, and pressure to move to WhatsApp or Telegram quickly. Report these immediately.
Matrimony-specific tips
- Involve family or trusted advisors when appropriate to your culture
- Verify education, employment, and marital status through respectful due diligence
- Do not share biodata PDFs containing private family contact details until you are comfortable
If you feel unsafe
If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. Then report the user on LankaMeet and email support@lankameet.online.
